Continually, Republicans are branded as insensitive to the environmental concerns of local communities and the world. In an effort to highlight how this generalization is inaccurate and to relieve the local community’s budgetary constraints by providing labor to a County program which is currently not fully funded, the Arlington Falls Church Young Republicans (AFCYR) will participate in the Arlington County Adopt-A-Park program.
The AFCYR’s have adopted the Lubber Run Park located N. Columbus St & 2nd St N. At least four times per year we will perform general maintenance to include mulching, brush trimming, stream pick-up, litter pick-up, etc. The first clean-up will occur on Saturday, July 18th from 10 am to 2 pm. Candidates for State Delegate Eric Brescia (47th) and Aaron Ringel (48th) will be there to welcome the volunteers. An outdoors, summer lunch of burgers, sides, and beverages will be provided for volunteers.
AFCYR needs volunteers to assist and in-kind donations of food and drinks for a picnic that day. Volunteers can help all day or for part of the day. To volunteer or donate food, drinks, or money to help off-set the cost, please contact Mitchell Bemos via email at mbemos81@hotmail.com or call 202-344-0240.

For our June meeting, we are reading "The Forgotten Man" by Amity Shales. In this thoroughly researched book, Shales explores the ways in which the policies of the New Deal "overestimated the value of government planning" and intensified and prolonged the economic misery of the Great Depression. Sound familiar? Republican Senators and Congressman have been feverishly reading this book because it is very relevant to what is happening now in Washington.
