Please join us at our July meeting. This month, our speaker will be Bruce Fein and he will discuss his latest book: American Empire: Before the Fall. Bruce worked for the Reagan Administration, and regularly appears on MSNBC, FOX News, C-SPAN, and NPR.

Below is Bruce Fein’s full biography along with links to a recent speech and interview.

Bruce Fein is a nationally and internationally renowned constitutional
lawyer, scholar and writer. After graduating from the Harvard Law School
with honors in 1972, Mr. Fein served as special assistant to the Assistant
Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of
Justice from 1973-1975. The lion’s share of his work consisted of providing
constitutional advice to the White House and executive branch agencies
and drafting congressional testimony. He also authored a monograph on
the definition of an impeachable offense as envisioned by the Constitution’s
makers in conjunction with the House Judiciary Committee’s impeachment
hearings against President Richard M. Nixon.

From 1975-1976, Mr. Fein served as Assistant Director in the Office
of Legal Policy at the U.S. Department of Justice where his primary duties
concerned legislative initiatives aimed at upgrading the administration of
federal justice. From 1981-1982, he served as Associate Deputy Attorney
General in the U.S. Department of Justice and supervised the Department’s
litigation and vetting of candidates for the federal judiciary. He then became
General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission from 1983-
1984, spearheading the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine as violating the free
speech rights of broadcasters and re-architecting the telecommunications
landscape after Judge Greene’s Modified Final Judgment vivisecting AT&T.
Mr. Fein was also appointed as Research Director for the House Republicans
on the Joint Congressional Committee on Covert Arms Sales to Iran from
1986-1987.

Mr. Fein served as a Visitor Scholar for Constitutional Studies at the
Heritage Foundation, an adjunct scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and taught as an adjunct professor at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Between 1985 and 2009, Mr. Fein wrote weekly Commentary Columns for The Washington Times on legal and international issues.

Additionally, he wrote occasional guest articles for The New York Times,
Washington Post, Financial Times, USA Today, the American Bar Association Journal, Harvard Law Review, and Boston Globe publications.

He regularly appears on national television and radio, including MSNBC, FOX News, C-SPAN, BBC, Reuters, and NPR

GOP Jumps to Historic Lead in Latest Gallup

Republicans Jump Out To Historic Lead In Gallup Generic Ballot – From RCP

Posted by Sean Trende
Gallup’s generic polling shows the number of voters saying that they would vote for Republicans rising three points from last week, while the number saying they will vote for Democrats dropped four points. The 49%-43% lead for the Republicans is the largest that the pollster has ever recorded for the party. Moreover, Democratic enthusiasm for voting this fall fell a point, while enthusiasm among Republicans stayed about fifteen points higher. This indicates an even wider lead for Republicans once Gallup imposes a likely voter screen this fall.

There’s any number of reasons for this: the public’s perception of Obama’s response to the oil spill, the shaky stock market performance last week, continued concern about the economy and spending. The bottom line is that, despite what is perceived as an underperformance for the Republicans in PA-12 a couple of weeks ago, there are still plenty of Democrats in trouble for this November.

Get involved and remember to vote in the primaries on June 8th. Whichever candidate wins, the first legitimate opportunity to unseat Moran is at hand.
